Using FTP
Find an FTP Browser
Most HTML editors, like FrontPage or DreamWeaver have their own FTP browsers built into the program. Otherwise, you can find a number of good quality FTP browsers on the Internet for free or very inexpensive. We would recommend WS-FTP from Ipswitch.com or FTP Commander from Internet-Soft.com.
Host
This is your domain. Usually you can just enter your domain in the field. To be more proper, some FTP browsers let you preface your domain with "ftp:/".
Directory
You do not need to fill in this field. If your FTP browser requires it, enter the root directory, which is "/". If you find you are working a lot in a subdirectory, you can enter that directory in this field. This will take you directly to this directory whenever you log in.
Account
This is usually an optional field and doesn't need to be filled. However, if you find it is required, then enter your domain name in all LOWER-CASE.
Username/Login
- 5-8 characters
- Must have at least one alpha character
- No spaces or underscores ('_')
Passwords
- 5-12 characters
- No spaces or dashes ('-')
The system will not enable us to retrieve your password. If you have misplaced or forgotten your password, we can reset it to a new password that you specify, via e-mail or telephone.
Passive Mode
While you will find that your connection will work with or without this setting, it is usually recommended to operate with passive mode turned on.
